The demise of Dr Wummen Bako has thrown Plateau into a deep sense of mourning and grief. The promising young man’s life was cut short by a lingering illness, which incapacitated him in the last few months.

ViewPointNigeria gathered that the Governor’s late brother died around 1:30 am at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), but his remains were later moved to the Nigerian Airforce hospital in Jos.
Until his death, Wumen was a certified accountant and a lecturer with the faculty of Management Science at the University of Jos.
He was a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and is survived by his wife, Evelyn Wumen Bako and four children

He is fondly remembered as a mentor, philanthropist and great youth strategist. Testimonies of his philanthropy and ethos have continued to pour in, with many paying glowing tribute to his life – particularly with regards his efforts at

  • Advocating good governance and accountability.
  • mentoring of several Plateau youths. Particular some of the leaders within key youth organisations in Plateau.
  • Advising the rescue government on key aspects of its manifesto – including service delivery, appointments etc
  • Other philanthropic gestures to do with internally displaced people (IDPs) etc.
  • bringing succour and comfort to the family of Late Golmetne Gofwen (a social media commentator who passed on 2 years ago)

Below a short recap of his life in pictures
