Lalong warns dissolved chairmen against trying to forcefully re-enter office

Sequel to the dissolution of all Local Government Chairmen in Plateau by Governor Simon Lalong last week, a showdown with the affected chairmen appears to be in the offing, as several of these ex-chairmen have threatened to resume work tomorrow, disregarding the order.

Pre-empting any such move, the governor, through his director of press affairs, Mr Samuel Emmanuel Nanle on Sunday, released a strongly worded communique warning the affected members against such moves.

The statement read “The attention of the Plateau State Government has been drawn to a planned forceful re-entry into office by Chairmen of the dissolved Executive Councils of Local Government Areas on Monday the 13th July, 2015. Government views this as an affront on the authority of the Executive Governor on whose directive and pronouncement the councils were dissolved. Government has stated repeatedly that it would not fold it hands and watch citizens engage in acts that are capable of disrupting the fragile peace in the state“.

The statement went on further to say that “Governor Simon Bako Lalong has directed the Commissioner of Police and all Directors of Personnel Management to ensure the premises of the various Local Government Councils are secured from mischief makers and for all who turned themselves into a threat to peace on the Plateau to be brought to book; there shall be no sacred cows in Governments efforts to ensure the security of lives and properties“.

In closing, he said “for the purpose of emphasis the Local Government Executive and Legislative Councils stand dissolved and the Directors of Personnel Managements (DPMs) are the recognised administrators of the various Councils.”
