News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that Chief Dan Dul, the elected chairman of Langtang North LGA on the platform of DPP may be on the verge of being sworn in (today) by Gov Lalong, in accordance with the ruling of the election tribunal. This is following the issuance of the certificate of return to him yesterday by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASAIEC).

It would be recalled that Dul was elected chairman of Langtang North LGA during the February 25 Local Government elections in plateau under the DPP banner but following his victory, he was denied the mandate because of unclear reasons presented by PLASIEC and in his place, Hon. Godwin Nanmwa Kumzhi of PDP was declared winner and sworn in.

He went to election tribunal headed by Justice J D Mann to challenge the victory pronouncement on Hon. Godwin Nanmwa Kumzhi,. The election tribunal ruled in his favour that he won the majority votes and aptly directed PLASIEC to issue a certificate of return to him, but this was largely ignored – as Hon. Godwin Nanmwa Kumzhi was allowed to continue in office.

Following the victory of Simon Lalong, he declared that he would not nullify the election of the current LG chairmen in place, but that he’d review situations where there have been electoral contentions. He appears to have stuck to his words and is returning the mandate of Dul.

It would be recalled that last week, ViewPointNigeria reported that several pressure groups including Premium Youth Network (PYN), headed by Mr. Jesse Nandem Zwalda released a communique asking the newly elected governor to, in the interest of justice and equity, reconsider installing Chief Dan Dul as Chairman. It would appear this effort and many others have necessitated the Lalong administration to move swiftly in that regard.

The swearing in of Chief Dan Dul will be the first official assignment being performed by Simon Lalong, as he attempts to right some of the wrongs of the last elections. He will be flanked by his principals – Hon. Rufus Bature (SSG), Hon. Letep Dabang (APC Chairman), Prof. John Wade (DG Research), Hon. Kangkum (Chief of Staff) amongst other APC stalwarts.

The event is slated for later this morning at 10:00am.
