GOVERNOR Simon Lalong of Plateau said on Monday that the state has spent N17 billion on infrastructure in the last two years.
Lalong made the disclosure when he presented his mid-term report to stakeholders at a town hall meeting in Jos to mark the Democracy Day.
The governor said that some of the projects were those he inherited as well as those he initiated when he came on board.
“In our ongoing project execution in the state numbering 170 projects spread across different Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), a total of N17.38 billion has so far been spent on projects from January, 2016 to April, 2017.
“In the spirit of continuity in governance, we resumed and completed the construction of many abandoned metropolitan roads to address the challenges faced by motorists and pedestrians.
“When this administration assumed office on May 29, 2015, it was confronted with many uncompleted and abandoned projects all over the state.
“With determination and zeal and above all with the policy of completing all abandoned projects, which are relevant to the socio-economic development we swung into action,” he said.
The governor stated that in spite of dwindling resources of the state, they had completed the Plateau Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, which was long abandoned and the Plateau State Geographic Information System (PLAGIS), along with the launching of issuance of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).
According to him, the popular Jos and Bukuru metropolitan ‘Operation Zero Pothole’ puts back many roads to their good form or shape through filling and rehabilitation of major road networks.
Lalong said that his administration also constructed the Rantiya road network, the Wildlife Park – Rafiki Junction, and rehabilitation of Miango Junction and the Kalong Bridge and Plateau State University, Bokkos road network are among other projects.
“In our desire to give Jos facelift to meet urban standards, some road projects were advertised, tendered for and awarded.
“They include the construction of road network at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Baptist Church, Dutse-Uku, New Market and Main Market roads all within Jos, construction of Anguwan Rogo/Anguwan Rimi road with spur and bridge to Hauwan Idi and Ali Kazaure.
“Others are construction of Kabong Satellite Market road to Tudun Wada/Sabon Gari road with spur to Mado Wild Life Park,” he said.
Lalong said that in line with the slump upgrade programme, the administration undertook road construction at Gangare, Dilimi, Rikkos.
