Jos, June 12, 2015 (NAN) The Plateau government on Friday said it would rebuild the burnt Jos Terminus Market to create conducive atmosphere for traders and buyers to operate.

The state Governor, Mr Simon Lalong, made this known when he inspected the market, which was destroyed by fire in 2003, along with the state’s stadium.

Lalong said that the market used to be one of the strongest revenue base of the state, but since it was destroyed, the revenue accruing to Plateau had started declining.

He added that “we had told the people of Plateau during our campaigns that if we were elected, we would rebuild the market and I would ensure that work on the market start soon.

“We must rebuild the market because we need revenue to execute our programmes as a government.

“Also, the Ahmadu Bello Way is crowded by traders doing business on the road; we intend to rebuild the market to take the traders off the streets.’’

The governor said that the previous administration in the state said it could not rebuild the market because of insecurity, adding, however, that “the security situation in the state has improved significantly.’’

Lalong said that the transition committee set up by the current government was already negotiating with the Jos Main Market Authority on the best ways to execute the project. (NAN)
