Plateau State government has resolved to trim down the number of its commissioners from 17 to 14, ViewPointNigeria gathered yesterday.
Our correspondent gathered that the local government areas to be affected by the reduction include Shendam, Mangu and Barkin Ladi LGA’s where the Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, his deputy, Prof. Sonnie Tyoden and the Secretary to the State Government Rufus Bature hail from.
A source close to Governor Lalong told Daily Trust that the decision became necessary as part of efforts to cut the cost of governance.
According to the source, “The governor, his deputy, and the SSG are already members of the executive council, so, the governor felt there was no need to get commissioners from those LG’s in order to cut costs.”
The source also said the state was planning to increase the number of high court judges to speed up litigations.
He also confirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had since last month submitted a list of five persons from the remaining 14 Local Government Areas in which the governor is expected to select one each as commissioner.
