The Executive Director, Plateau Aids Control Agency (PLACA), Dr. Sunday Koka has disclosed that the Plateau state government has spent the sum of N90 million counterpart fund for HIV/AIDS development programmes.
He explained that the state has an objective of reducing the incidence of HIV and AIDS through interventions in designated thematic areas.
“These areas included behavioural challenge, preventing new infection and care and support for persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS institution architecture.” He said.
In his remarks, the Plateau state Commissioner for Health, Dr Kuden Deyin Kamshak has said that the state has been involved in nationwide HIV/AIDS Sentinel Sero-Prevalence Survey conducted by both Federal Ministry of Health and Plateau state Ministry of Health.
He said, “The result of ANC Survey showed that HIV Sero-Prevalence among pregnant women in the state in 1991 was 6.3%, 1999 was 11.2%, then declined to 6.3% in 2003. The HIV Prevalence was found to have decreased to 5.9% in 2014.”
He added that the analysis data validated 1st Semester 2017 in Plateau state showed that the total people on Anti Retroviral Therapy was 43, 131- male, 13, 279; female, 29, 853.
He stated that in 2017 the HIV Testing Services in the state have tested about 54, 000 people for HIV – male, 22, 426, female, 29, 468 and couple, 1, 078.
He also disclosed that about 4, 332 were tested positive – male, 1, 539 and female 2, 793.
“Out of 24, 090 pregnant women tested for HIV about 155 were tested positive and 547 with previously known HIV positive infection.” He said
