The Plateau State Government has set up an eight-man committee to investigate the purchase and distribution of commercial vehicles and tricycles loaned to members of the public by the immediate past administration of former Governor, Jonah Jang.

Inaugurating the committee yesterday in Jos, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Rufus Bature said the investigation was necessary to put the record straight and for the state to be able to access the expected funds from the federal government to tackle youth poverty in the state.

The SSG mandated the committee to among others, investigate the number of vehicles purchased by the administration for the scheme, establish the total amount and the source of funds; establish the mode of distribution, names and addresses of the beneficiaries; identify the bank and ascertain the total amount deposited by each beneficiary as loan repayment.

According to him, “You are all aware that the Federal Government through the Office of the Vice President is introducing some social intervention measures to alleviate poverty and take our teeming restive youths out of the quagmire they find themselves in. ”These include among others, the school feeding, employment of teachers, giving of loans to women and several others. For Plateau to access such funds, we have to put our records straight because it was from such funds that the Tackling Poverty Together programme was funded.”
