Lalong builds primary healthcare centre in Ajikamai village of Shendam LGA

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau on Friday inaugurated the first ever Primary Health Care (PHC) Clinic in his own village, Ajikamai, in Shendam Local Government Area.

Inaugurating the N13 million facility, the governor described the event as “historic”.

“It is the first time my people are seeing an edifice like this in this village,” he said.

The governor said that the centre was built under the Community and Social Development Programme (CSDP) of the state.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work as well the speed with which it was completed, stating that the project would address the health needs of the people.

Lalong also lauded the community-approach adopted by CSDP in executing projects, and described the policy as “people-oriented”.

“The strategy surrenders the projects to the benefitting communities and makes it their duty to own and protect it for maximum effect,” he explained.

Yohanna Mantul, CSDP Director, said that the governor released N200 million to CSDP to intervene in some rural communities, noting that the Ajikamai clinic was one of such interventions.

“The clinic cost N13 million and was 100 percent funded by the state government. If you give CSDP the tools, we will deliver the goods as you have seen today,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the already furnished hospital has a labour room, a pharmacy and a consulting room.

The clinic also has a records department, surgical unit and a ward each for male, female and children ward.
