Lalong Budgets approx. N18 Billion for Education sector

In its efforts to improve the educational sector, the Plateau State Government has budgeted the sum of N18,902,424,182 billion for the section in its 2015 budget.

This was disclosed, Tuesday, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance in the State, Mrs Rauta Dakok, while giving the breakdown of the 2015 budget in Jos.

She said, “This amount allocated to this sub-sector represents 13.9% of the capital estimate.

“It is for the completion of the ongoing renovation, construction of schools and provision of infrastructure for tertiary institutions.

In the Health sector, the Permanent Secretary said, the sum of N8,420,400,935 has been allocated to the sector, which is 6.85% of the total budget.

According to her, this sum is to be used for the completion/expansion 3 general hospitals in Riyom, Mabudi and Kwal -which are all spread across the three Senatorial Districts.

It also covers the upgrading of 3 cottage hospitals to genaral hospitals, among others.

The ministry which received the highest allocation was the Ministry of Works and Transport, which has been allocated the sum of N37,484,700,000 billion, which represents 29.43% of the total budget of the State.

Dakok maintained that, “Emphasis will be on the completion of ongoing road projects.

“To this end, the sum of N25,337,624, 000 billion has been set aside for the completion of these ongoing roads projects this fiscal year.

The 2015 budget christened “Budget of Continuity and Inclusive Growth V”, is to further consolidate on the achievements made in the 2014 budget and is geared towards implementing the 5 point agenda of the present administration. She added.

Dakok stressed that the focus of the 2015 budget is the completion of ongoing projects, with particular focus on peace and security, human capital development, among others.

It would be recalled that over a month ago, Governor Simon Lalong had signed the 2015 budget of N215,457,618,204.72 billion into law.
