Kingmakers to select a new Long –Goemai

News available to ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Gomei ethnic group in Plateau State is set to select a new a paramount ruler, Long –Goemai from 5 contestants. This selection follows the death of the previous Goemai, late chief, Miskoom Hubert Shaldas II who died about a year ago. Shaldas who was the president, Shendam Traditional Council, was one of Plateau’s oldest traditional leaders. He ruled for 28 years.

The seven kingmakers will select the new Long –Goemai on Monday at the traditional palace in Shendam LGA

A tender shared with ViewPointNigeria indicates that the contestants include the late Long-Goemai’s son, Mipo Shaldas, Elias Nkwap, Alh. Yakubu Othman, Colonel Danladi Neylong and Julius Neylong.

The Plateau State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dayyabu Yusuf Garga, told newsmen that the kingmakers had been given seven days to prepare for the selection.
