The Plateau State Government has debunked the report that judges in the state are on strike following its ability to meet up with their demands.

Mr Geofrey Kamyai, Plateau Chief Registrar (CR), made the pronouncement while addressing pressmen in Jos at the State High Court premises.

“The Government and people of Plateau have been taken aback and shocked by a false report in the media that judges in Plateau are on strike.

“I wish to categorically state here today that there is no single Judge, under the employment of this state, that is on strike as all our courts are opened and sittings going on without any obstruction whatsoever, ’’ the Chief Registrar declared.

Kamyai, who owned up to government’s inability to meet up with Area Court Judges demand for dressing allowances, said no judge has refused to enter the court to work.

According to him, “You can see for yourself that all the courts are opened with judges and lawyers carrying out their constitutional roles as usual without any hitch.’’

The Chief Registrar stated that it was a known fact that Plateau Government was not owing its workers any salary arrears nor pensions.

“The problem of none issuance of dressing allowance is an issue which this government met on ground and has been trying its best to address.

“But for somebody or group to go and misinform the public on the situation on ground, is very bad and so unfortunate, ’’ the Chief registrar lamented.

Also speaking, Mr Dauda Davou, Secretary of Sharia Area Court Judges Association (SACJAN), debunked the report that members of his association were on strike.

Davou argued, “As the secretary of JACJAN, I am not aware of any strike action been declared by our association nor any other body of the benc; we are all in our courts doing our work.’’

“The issue of dressing allowance for judges has been for the past eight years and we have been on dialogue with the government toward addressing it without resorting to strike action, ’’ Davou explained.
