Many residents of Jos, the Plateau State capital, have resorted to playing indoor games to ease the boredom of the COVID-19 total lockdown imposed on the state. The lockdown order, which is a directive of the state government, is a precautionary measure against the ravaging novel coronavirus pandemic, from which the state has recorded some cases already.
During the lockdown, there is no movement of any kind and all shops, markets and places of worship are put under lock and key. This total lockdown has led to varying degrees of boredom among the people, forcing many to device ways within their homes to ease the effect of the restriction.
It is gathered that residents now engage in playing indoor games like cards, ludo, draft, chess, among others. Others, especially the women, engage in hair plaiting and story telling.
A resident of Zarmaganda, said they engage in playing cards with other tenants in the compound, to eased the boredom of staying at home. He said they normally played the game for between two to three hours daily.
Another resident of Dadin Kowa, said he normally engage in chatting with his neighbours under a mango tree. He further said after being locked up in his room for a long time, he usually found refuge under the mango tree to get fresh air and chat with his neighbours. While a woman also in the same area said she normally engaged in plaiting of hair, and she do so to get some income during the lockdown. She said as a single mother catering for four children, she needed to augment her income to feed her family.
