News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Jos North Local Government Council has on Monday 1st October, challenged the judgement of a Jos Federal High Court directing it to pay N179.8 million being debt owed the Plateau Board of Internal Revenue (BIR).

The board of Internal Revenue had, on April 12, through its counsel, Gideon Kutu, sued the Jos North Local Government council for allegedly owing it N189. 3 million, being arrears of unremitted tax covering the period of 2005 to 2010.

Kutu had prayed the court to compel the council to pay the said amount, which he said was un-remitted Pay As You Earn (PAYE).

Although there was no counsel representing the council on that day of the hearing, the Council’s litigation officer, Dayi Yohana, argued that N9 million, out of the said amount, had already been paid to the board, leaving a balance of N179.8 million, which is the new outstanding amount.

In his submission, Dayi Yohana produced two installment payment receipts of N6 million and N3.7 million to confirm his assertions.
