Jos — The management of Jos-North Local Government Area of Plateau State has settled debts totalling N1.2 billion that it inherited from past administrations, its chairman, Mr Danjuma Sanda, said in Jos.
Sanda told newsmen that the debts were from unpaid salaries, payments for executed contracts as well as other financial obligations. He blamed the debt burden on “carelessness and financial indiscipline” by his predecessors.
The chairman, who lamented that his administration committed so much to clear such liabilities, expressed satisfaction over the peace in Jos.

“I have visited some of the so-called no-go areas and I can tell you that the inhabitants there are always warm and ready to welcome everyone,” he said.
He attributed the development to increased synergy between the council and various security agencies and local vigilante groups who have been “very supportive”.
He however lamented the poor funding which has affected quality projects, adding that special attention is being paid to health care delivery.
