The special adviser to the Plateau State Governor on special duties, Mr. Yakubu Jang has confirmed to the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the state owned brewery, the Jos International Brewery (JIB) which has been comatose for over a decade shall soon be revived. He stated this last week during an interview session with newsmen at the Government Lodge in Jos. He stressed that the revival was in line with the Jang administration’s commitment to boost revenue generation, provide employment and preserve the legacy of the founding fathers of the state.

He said “In prior years, the Jos International Brewery was a good economic initiative that provided both revenue and employment to the people of Plateau State, however as the years progressed, it was plagued by rife corruption and mismanagement. And by the time this government came on-board, the company had so many liabilities, which could not be readily settled. He stated that because of the immense liabilities of the organization, previous administrations had even tried to sell it off, but when the Jang administration came on-board, they decided to do things differently by attempting to settle the outstanding liabilities.

He confirmed that there are currently several investors who have indicated interest in the revival of the brewery, however the Plateau State Government was yet to agree a deal, because it is still trying decide on a decent percentage ratio between the Plateau State Government and the respective investors. He said once a deal was reached, the capital development to revive the plant would commence in earnest.

In the same regard, it would be recalled that ViewPointNigeria reported last week on separate attempts by the Jang administration to revive the comatose Plateau Newspaper –the Nigerian Standard, which had equally been out of circulation for over a decade. It would be interesting to see whether these ambitious and commendable efforts will come to fruition.
