Power, works and housing minister of state Suleiman Haruna, on Monday, inspected work on 80 housing units in Jos and declared the quality of project execution as “very impressive”.
The N771 million housing units, which are part of Federal Government’s new National Housing programme phase 1, are being built on 5.04 hectares of land located in Jos.
“I am happy with the quality of work; it clearly shows that there is a strong collaboration between the contractor and the supervisor,” Haruna said.
He said that the project, which had attained 80 per cent completion, had given jobs to 200 youths with multiplier economic effects on the host community.
The minister said that the location of the housing project was to open up new areas and reduce congestion in Jos city.
Some of the contractors, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), however, expressed concern over the lack of access road to the site and begged the minister to appeal to the state government to repair it.
They said that they were being forced to pay extra money to transport materials as drivers had often complained of the effect of the bad road on their vehicles.
The minister, who was equally excited about the speed of work at the site, promised to appeal to the Plateau government to repair the road.
Haruna, however, said that other infrastructural facilities would soon be introduced to the area, and expressed optimism that the housing units would be commissioned in two months’ time.
