The president, who was represented by Vice President Nnamdi Sambo, gave the commendation during the thanksgiving service organised to mark the 70th birthday of Gov. Jonah Jang in Du, Jos South Local Government Area on Saturday 15th March 2014.
In his address, he said the achievements of Jang had impacted positively on the lives of the people of Plateau. “Jang has transformed the state through various projects in the health, agricultural, education and in the infrastructural sectors and in the construction of the very first flyover in the state. “He has revamped the agricultural sector having spent over N10 billion in the sector. “In the health sector, he has upgraded most hospitals to general hospitals and he is currently building three referral hospitals for the three senatorial zones,” Jonathan said. The president, while felicitating with Jang on his attainment of the biblical three scores and ten, “assured him and the people of the Federal Government’s unflinching support”. He said that the aim of such support was for the development of the state and to better the lot of its people.
Similarly, the Senate President, David Mark, also congratulated Jang on his birthday and commended him for transforming the state. Mark said that Jang’s record as a military governor in Benue then, superseded that of all past military governors in the state. He recalled that Jang constructed roads, hospitals and schools which still served and impacted positively the lives of the people of Benue.
The PDP National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, and Gov. Godswill Akpbio of Akwa Ibom, who attended the occasion, prayed that Jang’s birthday should bring lasting peace to the state. In his speech, Jang thanked God for preserving and making him strong at 70 and as an instrument to impact positively on the lives of people.
Most Rev Benjamin Kwashi, the Anglican Archbishop of Jos, called on Nigerians to strive to make positive change in the life of others. Kwashi, who identified poverty as being responsible for the security challenges in the country, prayed for peace in the country. This event was said to have been attended by several ministers, governors and deputy governors and royal fathers.
