Amongst receipients of the honours are several high profile Nigerians including Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state. Also selected are all service chiefs of military establishments in Nigeria.
Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state has distinguished himself in areas of infrastructural and capital development in Plateau state and as such has been recognised by the Federal Government. In the span of 7 years for which he has been Governor, he has been able to build several infrastructure which would severe to raise the financial profile of the state. Even though the state he has Governed has remained plagued by security challenges, his tenacity to manage these seem to have caught the eye of the federal government and hence the recognistion.

The service chiefs who will be honoured on Monday, September 29, 2014 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, will be among 305 Nigerians and friends of Nigeria who will be receiving the national honours.
The approved list, which was announced yesterday in a statement signed by the Director (Special Duties Office), Mr. Adeyemo Tunde, for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, headlining others with the highest honours category of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
Others who will bag CFRs are the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Kenneth Minimah; Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin; Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshall Adesola Amosu; Inspector General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba; National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (rtd); Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Brig-Gen. Jones Arogbofa (rtd).
Also included in this category are the former Supreme Court Judge, Hon. Justice Bolarinwa Babalakin; former Justices of the Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Abubakar Bashir Wali; Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad; Hon. Justice Christopher Chukwuma – Eneh; Hon. Justice Muhammad Muntaka Coomassie; Hon. Justice John Afolabi Fabiyi; and Hon. Justice Olunfunlola Oyodele Adekeye.
The other recipients of the CFR category are the immediate past Head of Service of the Federation (HoS) Bukar Goni Aji; his immediate successor MR. Danladi I. Kifasi; HRM Oba Victor Ademefun. Kiladejo; Chief Philip Asiodu; HRH Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi; former President of MAN, Chief Kolawole Babalola Jamodu; an entrepreneur, Chief Oludolapo Ibikun Akinkugbe; a business magnet, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu; and Jimoh Ibrahim Folorunsho.
In the category of the Commander of the Niger (CON) are the People Democratic Party’s (PDP) flag bearer in the just concluded Osun gubernatorial elections, Senator Iyiola Omisore; former Deputy Governor of Osun State and immediate past Minister of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada; former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili; former Minister of Defence and Son of the first Military Head of State (Maj-Gen. Aguiyi-Ironsi), Chief Thomas Ikeokwuadem Aguyi-Ironsi; former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Muhammad Abba Gana; and Olorogun Felix Ibru.
Others in this CON category include Chairman, Nestle Nigeria Plc, Chief Olusegun Oladipo Osunkeye; the Chairman, All Progressive Congress and former Governor of Edo State, Chief John Oyegun; one of the latest APC decampees to PDP Chief Tom Ikimi; MD SPDC, Mr. Mutiu Sunmonu; former President, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Dr. Michael Olawale Cole; Senator Nkechi Nwogu; and former Deputy/Acting Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba.

A breakdown shows that of the 305 awardees 24 persons would be honoured with CFR, 59 – CON, 51 – OFR, 61 – OON, 53 – MFR, 55 – MON, while one person each will get a FRM I and FRM II.
