News reaching the ViewPointNigeria news desk indicates that PDP ward executives of Moekat ward in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, yesterday confirmed the membership status of Mr. John Alkali (who is vying for the governorship ticket of the party) as a substantive member of the party.
In would be recalled that last week the PDP state executives of Plateau described John Alkali and other members vying for respective positions, including Joshua Dariye, Pauline Tallen, Jimmy Cheto, Fidelis Tapgun etc as impostors who did not belong to the party and warned them against using the PDP logo on their posters.
However today, a statement from Alkali’s ward signed by the party chairman, Mr. Kwanmen Hentung; deputy chairman, Joshua Irmiya; secretary, Kopding Tobias; and four others and made available to newsmen, said they were worried that the party at the state level did not consult with its officials at the ward and local government levels before it made the pronouncement it did.
The statement said Alkali remains a member of the party and had never contemplated leaving for another party and challenged anyone or group to prove otherwise.
It stated: “The constitution of the party is very clear on the registration and deregistration of party members. It starts from the ward, local, state to national and we find it disturbing that here the reverse is the case.
“For the records, Arch John Alkali never contemplated leaving the PDP for another party. There is no shred of a letter purportedly written by Arch. John Alkali at any time since he joined the party suggesting that he wanted to leave the party. There is equally no evidence, either written or oral known to the ward exco of our great party of Arch. John Alkali’s anti-party activities anytime in recent memory.”
This new development adds to the intrigues currently going on in the Plateau political space, where certain key members have been barred from returning to the PDP having defected to other political parties.
