The political crisis affecting the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau state has taken a new twist.
The elders and some contending aspirants have petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan, demanding his urgent intervention in the matter before in degenerated.
Engr. Jimmy Cheto, John Alkali and host of others have raised allegations of electoral frauds and malpractices during the ruling Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary in Plateau State.
The group, in a letter addressed to the Presidency and signed by the party’s elders and seven of the PDP aspirants in the state, also called on the President to resolve the ongoing crisis between the state leadership of the party and followers, expressing negative consequences if the crisis is not resolved.
The letter reads: “The glaring allegation of irregularities at the primary including the Governors influences are worrisome and need to be addressed urgently before things degenerate further because the people cannot be taken for right.
“There was another round of irregularities where the boxes were tagged intentionally to know any local Government that did not vote for the wish of the state Governor Jonah David Jang.
“We observed that use of money and intimidation by the officials of the Plateau State Government.”
It is glaring that the crisis and disagreement by the party faithful is now threatening its unity in all the three senatorial zones.
Another issue also raised is that the party in the state has deliberately reused to formally receive the former Governor of the state, Joshua Chibi Dariye, and one time Deputy Governor, Pauline Tallen, back into its fold despite the waver by the PDP headquarters.
