Plateau state Governor, Da Jonah Jang has sworn in Mr Nanmwa Kumzhi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area. The swearing in was done after the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) declared him winner of the 25th February 2014 Local Government elections.
Jang who was speaking at the Plateau state Government house during the swearing in, commended the people of Langtang North over the peaceful conduct of the polls and their patience afterwards. He said that the new chairman will meet the yearnings of the people.
He said “I commend the people of the local government for the peaceful exercise which led to the emergence of the new chairman. Today’s swearing in is coming at this time because of the litigation that came up after the election which the court has since been cleared, resulting in PLASIEC declaring a winner. I urge the new chairman to embrace all irrespective of party affiliation for reconciliation, peace and development of the local government. As a leader, you are to conduct your assignments without bias and sentiments.”
The Governor enjoined Kumzhi to ensure the unity of the people becomes his priority and not to betray the trust of the people through improved governance and service delivery at the grassroots. He said “I envisage a local government administration where service and development will be the motivation. Where corruption will be tackled; where primary health care centres will be manned by qualified personnel with the required medicament.”
“Where communities will not be separated by mere lack of culverts; where workers will not be owed salaries for months, where you will not go into hiding, running away from the people,” he added, pointing out that his administration would continue to pursue policies and programmes that would promote the status and well-being of the people at the local government level.”
It will be recalled that ViewPointNigeria reported the outcome of Langtang North LGA election which was inconclusive. The returning officer of the Local Government announced the election of the LGA with the exception of Jat ward. PLASIEC thereafter stated that there would be a rerun in the ward leading to a group calling for outright declaration of the results while another supporting the action of PLASIEC.
