Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has re-echoed calls for the creation of State Police, to reduce crime to the bearest minimum in the society.

Jang made the call during the Pulling Out parade of the Commissioner of Police in the State, Chris Olakpe, who retired after 34 years in service, held at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos.

Jang made the call during the Pulling Out parade of the Commissioner of Police in the State, Chris Olakpe, who retired after 34 years in service, held at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos.

He said, “We aware of the many challenges that characterize and defined security in Nigeria as well as policing in this country.

The Who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Shedrach Best, added that, “.Government of Plateau State has been quite forward in making suggestion for police reform and reforming policing in Nigeria with specific reference to decentralization.

“We will not stop and we will not keep quite with this agenda which we believe will contribute in making our society safer.

He further explained that, “The retiring Commissioner of Police arrived at a time when we had a lot of security challenges in Plateau State.

“We want to appreciate his contributions within the State Security Council and different aspects of security service.

Jang assured the police of government’s continued support.

In his address the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Dauda Fakai, said, the retirement of an officer in the police is a rear gift that comes from God, “Especially when it is done with sound health.

He appreciated the contributions of the retiring Commissioner of Police to the nation.

Earlier in his pulling out address, Chris Olakpe said, “I’m tempted to state that no other State in Nigeria enjoys the kind of synergy existing among the security agencies on the Plateau.

He commended security Chiefs for their commitment towards fight againsts crime and criminality in the state.
