Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau state has blamed the security conditions of the country on failure of the nation’s legal system. He was speaking at the swearing in of three high court judges. Messrs Arum Ashom, Ishaku Kunda and Samson Gang were sworn in at the main conference hall of Government house Jos.

Jang said, “The increasing impunity and dare devilry of sundry criminals particularly terrorists and thieves especially of public funds are enhanced by the weakness of our legal system.

Adding that, “I will never get tired of saying that a system which allows known rogues to be elected or appointed into positions will not only be self-destructive but will weaken the moral values of the society, thus leading to the decadence we are witnessing and the suffering of today, particularly among the youth. “I call for the amendment of our laws in that regard to strengthen the justice in Nigeria.

He decried that, “How can the common man understand a system where someone who steals Billions of Naira is allowed to smile home from the court with his loot, after paying a fine of only N750 thousand?

How can we explain awarding billions of naira to victims while the perpetrators of post-election violence have not been made to face justice? What can we say is the deterrent to committing crimes today in Nigeria?

“In this age when insecurity and corruption are threatening the very existence of the state, we need men and women of proven integrity and honour in the judiciary which is described as the last hope of the common man, to ensure that there is justice. He stated that Plateau state will amend the laws within its legislative areas to address the issue.
