PLATEAU State Governor, Jonah Jang, has said that he has not anointed anybody who will take over from him after the expiration of his tenure in 2015.

He urged the people of the state to join him in prayers to God to anoint the right person who will take over from him to continue to build on the developmental process of his administration.

Jang stated this at the weekend when he was interacting with journalists in Jos.

He said: “I believe that PDP will still form the government here in Plateau State. This is because I need to be told any state that has the pleasure of PDP, very strongly and firmly in the whole of the federation like Plateau. This is where PDP was born. So, we cannot throw our child away. Plateau will always remain PDP.

“But, please join me in praying. I don’t know today who will take over from me. But I am praying that as God anointed me, he should anoint the right person to come and continue these projects gradually. By the grace of God, people will come for tourism here in Plateau State and not be going to Europe.”

Speaking on the Special Task Force (STF), which is charged with the responsibility of the internal security of the state, Jang said the security outfit has succeeded in its assignment.

He, however, stated that he denounced insulting comments and insinuations in the media referring to him as if he was the problem of the state, saying that he was not the problem of the state but inherited it.

He added: “You have forgotten that the crisis of 2001 to 2004 was so bad that President Olusegun Obasanjo had to put a state of emergency and removed the government. Was I the governor at that time? Was it not crisis?

“In all fairness to my predecessors, the thing started during the military administration. From my experiences, people just want to blame the governor for the crisis he has no control over. If there is a crisis, he must have the instrument available to you to be able to crush that crisis.

“I was a military governor. There was an attempt of it in Gongola in my days. I commanded the Brigade Commander in Yola. I said after the Commissioner of Police reported to me that the situation was above them to handle, and the Brigade Commander immediately moved in.

“Before I reported to Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, I had already moved in the troops and within few days, we brought it down. And he congratulated me. He didn’t query me that the military was not under you, why did you use them? But here I cannot even command a fly as an elected governor and also Chief Security officer of the state. And that is why we have been talking of State Police.”
