The Governor of Plateau state, Da. Jonah Jang has given his backing to a proposal to establish at least 50 microfinance banks across his state. He expressed his support and backing at the opening ceremony of the training of over 25,000 Plateau women on financial literacy, orgnanised by the First Lady of the state.
At the event, the governor congratulated the first lady for equitably drawing the women from each of the 17 local government areas, saying that the laudable step for such a gigantic project would go a long way towards empowering women and alleviating their plight. He added that he will give her the needed moral support to continue the good even after his administration leaves office.
In her remarks, Mrs Jang identified lack of finance to finance small and medium scale businesses as the bane of most women and youth who wish to rise above poverty -stating that her efforts are instill financial literacy into women and youth was exactly geared towards addressing some of those issues.
