Islamic aid and vigilante groups have been trained by security operatives in Jos, the Plateau State capital on best security practices and safety measures during bomb blasts or natural disasters in the country.
The security operatives said the training was meant to build the capacity of the participants on the current security challenges in Jos and the country in general. The training was mainly on Identification of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Handling of Suspicious Persons and Objects by the State Police Command, Personal Security Challenges by the Directorate of State Services (DSS), Role of Aid Groups/Vigilantes in Maintaining Law and Order by the Special Task Force (STF), Importance and Best Ways of Crowd Control during Emergencies and Role of Aid Groups/Vigilantes in Emergency Situations by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The secretary to the Plateau state government, Professor Shedrach Best who was represented by the Special Assistant (SA) to Governor Jonah Jang on Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Nasiru Goshi stated that security is the responsibility of all and government alone cannot provide it without the cooperation of communities. Goshi thanked he organisers and promised that government would continue to support any genuine step that will help in tackling security challenges in the state.
The training which was organised by the Nigeria Aid Group of Jamaatu Nasril Islam, Plateau State chapter, had over 200 participants from different aid groups and vigilantes across the city with the aim of complementing the security agents in the maintenance of law and order.
