We all know that godfatherism is not a new word in the Nigerian’s diary of political terminology. Well, this system can be traced back as far as during the era of Nnamdi Azikwe, Obafemi Awolowo, and Tafawa Balewa of blessed memories, the earliest political pillars of this Nation. This people are seen as political godfathers in the First Republic.

Most politicians nowadays, who wanted to be elected by all means, invoked their names and rode just to occupy political offices which will not last for eternity.

I know you maybe wondering what I meant by the word; “Godfather”.

A godfather is a political juggler whose virtue of goodwill or immense wealth determines and guarantees the successful enthronement of his godson either legitimately or illegitimately. The illegitimate ascension of the throne can be in the form of vote-buying, connivance with INEC officials to manipulate results but hardly does he deliver his puppet legitimately.

A political godfather is a term mostly used in Nigeria to describe a merchant who acquires the state as a client to further his personal economic and political empire, which will be maintained by a godson, through an unbroken pact of remitting the state or Local Government resources before and after ascending the seat of power.

However, my write-up is not intended to x-ray the organogram of political godfatherism but to explain how the virus has been transmuted into an economical godfatherism.

The only way we can do away with this system is through unity. We the Young minds of this Nation must unite together irrespective of your skin colour, religion, tribe or gender.

We must know that the future of this Nation lies in our hands.

WE ARE THE CHANGE THAT WE ARE YARNING FOR

VOTE FOR COMPETENCY IN THIS FORTHCOMING PLATEAU SOUTH SENATORIAL ELECTION.
