Insecurity: Plateau Youth Leaders Meet to Discuss Ways to Tackle Insecurity

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF AN EXTENSIVE MEETING BY PLATEAU YOUTH LEADERS FORUM; COMPRISING OF THE LEADERSHIP OF THE PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL, THE LEADERSHIP OF COALITION OF ETHNIC NATIONALITIES, LEADERSHIP OF JNI, YOUTH WING, LEADERSHIP OF IRIGWE YOUTH MOVEMENT, PLATEAU STATE FULANI YOUTH LEADER, OTHER FULANI LEADERS ACROSS THE STATE AND THE FULANI LEADERSHIP IN IRIGWE, HELD AT THE AZI NYAKO YOUTH CENTRE, DADIN KOWA, JOS, PLATEAU STATE, ON THURSDAY APRIL 7TH, 2020. BY 10AM.

Following the senseless killings and destruction of lives and property in Irigwe, Bassa LGA, the leadership of the Plateau State Youth Council ably led by Sunday, Lot Adas, on Thursday 7th April, 2022 summoned an emergency meeting with Youth leaders across the state to brainstorm on better ways through which a permanent end can be put to the callous killings and wanton destruction of precious property in Irigwe and other parts of the state facing unabated attacks and killings.

The meeting which was held at the instance of the leadership of the Plateau State Youth Council had in attendance, Youth leaders across the state and particularly, Youth leaders from the affected community.

At the extensive meeting held at the Azi Nyako Youth centre, issues were frankly discussed and resolutions reached as thus;

  1. That Both Irigwe and Fulani Youth Leaders want Peace and have agreed to Pursue Peace with the aim of putting an end to the killings
  2. That Killings of people (Irigwe or Fulani) for whatever reason (s) must stop with immediate effect and any further killing and destruction of property of either Irigwe or Fulani will no longer be tolerated by Plateau Youth Leaders, and by extension, Plateau Youths.
  3. That the Plateau Youth Leaders Forum shall take visits to Irigwe to interact with both Fulani and Irigwe Youths at the grassroots who are directly bearing the brunt of the attacks to discuss the way forward
  4. That the Plateau Youth Leaders Forum shall take charge of the Peace Process (es) with no single interference by external forces since it is the Youths that are at the centre of the attacks.
  5. That the forum shall follow very closely and keenly, every development in Irigwe and other parts of the state facing security challenges and shall reconvene in no distant time to restrategize on having a lasting peace. By these resolutions, masterminds and perpetrators of any heinous act (s) capable of causing unrest, thereby leading to loss of lives, human beings and destruction of property are warned very strongly to sheath their swords and give peace a chance with effect from today, 11TH APRIL, 2022.
