An appeal has been filled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the judgement of an Abuja High Court annulling the election of Gyang Pwajok of the People Democratic Party (PDP) as the Senator representing Plateau North.

Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) had earlier challenged the by election conducted on the 6th October 2012 on the ground that it was excluded. The election was conducted by INEC to replace Late Senator Gyang Dantong of the PDP.

Confirming the decision, Mr Bencyn Ikpe who is the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Plateau said that the status quo remains until the appeal is determined by the court. He stated that the court did not stop INEC from conducting the election as it was a pre-election matter and urged Senator Pwajok to get an injunction stopping the enforcement of the ruling.
