The Plateau State Police command has said it lost 15 officers in the course of performing their duties while 1025 officers were promoted to various ranks in the year 2015.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Adekunle Oladunjoye while briefing journalist on the achievements of the force in the last three months and summary of their activities for 2015 said those promoted included 777 Corporals to Sergeants, 100 Sergeants to Inspectors, 93 Traffic Wardens GD III to Traffic Wardens GD II, 25 State Traffic Wardens to ASP, 16 ASP’s to DSP’s and 10 Police Constables to Corporal while nine DSP’s were promoted to SP’s.

CP Oladunjoye explained some of the command’s achievements to include the recovery of 26 arms and over 1000 ammunitions, arrest of 29 robbery suspects and 10 culpable homicide suspects whom he said were still under investigations.

He said out of the 3378 persons arrested in 2015, 2461 have been prosecuted with 1420 securing a conviction while 55 persons have been acquitted and 922 persons are still awaiting trial. The CP added, “2303 cases were reported in 2015, and 1935 cases were prosecuted, 1126 cases secured convictions, 760 cases are awaiting trial while 49 cases have been acquitted.”

Oladunjoye paraded some of the suspects including one Ishaya Mafwahai of Mbar village, Bokkos LGA who allegedly poisoned his four months old son as well as Salome Samuel of Riyom LGA for allegedly throwing her one day old baby through a storey building. The two suspects told our correspondents that they were not in their right frame of mind at the time of committing the act.
