ICP training – University Don charges Journalist to be equipped with multicultural diversity of the nation

International Press Center in partnership with the European union has commenced the training of Journalist in the country on best practices and professional reporting of the forthcoming general elections .
.

Speaking at the occasion in Kano ,Professor Umaru Pate of the Bayero University Kano said the mass media needs to equip itself with the multicultural diversity of the nation if it must effectively cover the 2019 general elections.

Professor Pate who spoke on conflict sensitivity and avoiding hate speech as imperatives in reporting elections said media professionals must understand the context in which the country operates.

He stressed the need for professionalism and called for projection of national interest against what he described as Interest of identity.

In another presentation, an editorial board member of the Guardian newspaper, Mr Martins Oloja urged Journalists to be equipped with the knowledge of the law so as to avoid pitfalls.

He expressed displeasure over the nonchalant of journalists to read, noting that it was responsible for the poor quality of information disseminated to the public.

The worship with the theme, best practices and professional reporting of the electoral process has in attendance, journalists from the north -east, Northwest and North Central zones of the country.
