Ibas Indigene form saga: Group refutes VPN reports as VPN prepares to invite LG boss to clear the air…

D. M Longgul (lead citizen reporter)

A group identified as Action PSG Media is contesting the assertions made by the citizen who has reported to Viewpoint Nigeria’s citizen journalist, D.M Longgul about his indigene form collection saga with the Barkin Ladi LG authorities. The group describes the report as “deceptive,” and the title of their response is: “BARKIN LADI COUNCIL CHAIRMAN DENIES DECEPTIVE REPORT ON INDIGENE FORM PROCESS IN IBAAS CHIEFDOM.” Furthermore, the group proceeded to accuse the journalist and to impugn his character and professional integrity; however, the official governmental entity, namely the information unit of the Barkin Ladi local government, has yet to respond. Nevertheless, in the interest of maintaining equilibrium, Viewpoint Nigeria shall adhere to the principle of equitable hearing as it intends to invite both the chairman or his spokesperson and the complainants/ Ibas Community in the near future to provide equal opportunities to articulate their concerns, fully cognizant that this democratization fosters a multiplicity of perspectives that may be neglected by mainstream media, thereby enriching public discourse, which is also marked by both empowerment and challenges. In this regard, we acknowledge the criticism and shall offer our platform to all parties, irrespective of class or status, in the forthcoming days concerning this issue.

BARKIN LADI COUNCIL CHAIRMAN REFUTES MISLEADING REPORT ON INDIGENE FORM PROCESS IN IBAAS CHIEFDOM.

The attention of the Executive Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Hon. Pwajok Stephen Gyang, has been drawn to a misleading report circulating on social media and online platforms, including Viewpoint Nigeria, titled “Barkin Ladi Chair Declined Indigene Form from the Recently Established Ibaas Chiefdom” by one Longgul Dakwom, a self-acclaimed “lead citizen reporter.”

The Executive Chairman, wishes to categorically refute this report as baseless, unfounded, and an attempt to mislead the public, cause disaffection, and disrupt the unity among the peace-loving people of Foron District and Barkin Ladi Local Government Area as a whole.

Barkin Ladi Local Government has five constitutionally recognized districts, namely: Ropp, Gashish, Heipang, Fan, and Foron. These districts, including their traditional leadership structures, are fully recognized in the indigene form process. Foron District is under the leadership of the Gwom Rwey Foron, whose role in this process is well established and cannot be disputed. The indigene form process provides for endorsements from the Village Head, District Head, and the Local Government Chairman, ensuring inclusivity and clarity.

It is important to state that the Local Government Administration does not discriminate against any citizen, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or religion. Barkin Ladi is committed to providing a level playing field for all its citizens and fostering unity and progress.

The report in question lacks credibility and is a clear demonstration of the dangers of misinformation.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the author, a lecturer at the University of Jos, failed to substantiate his claims before publication. This raises concerns about the standards of information being conveyed to students who should be mentored to become better citizens and contribute positively to the nation, especially if such a sensitive and divisive issue can be reported irresponsibly without proper verification.

In the interest of factual accuracy, it must be emphasized that Indigene forms are not ratified based on Chiefdoms, as explicitly stipulated in the provisions. The writer would have benefited from consulting with Local Government Authorities prior to obtaining press verification and clarity.

The Local Government Administration cautions media practitioners and journalists to adhere to the ethical standards of their profession by verifying information and considering the potential consequences of their publications prior to dissemination. While we acknowledge Viewpoint Nigeria’s efforts in providing the public with timely and informative reports, we urge media outlets to discourage contributors who disseminate falsehoods and instigate public discord.

The report by Longgul Dakwom fell short of the expected professionalism and journalistic integrity, lacking credibility, objectivity, truthfulness and authenticity. This raises questions about the motivations behind the article and the goals of its sponsors and author. This is a grossly misplaced attempt at mischief and blackmail that we urge the public to disregard.

Hon. Pwajok Stephen Gyang reassures all citizens of Barkin Ladi that his administration remains committed to promoting peace, inclusivity, and good governance. We will continue to serve all citizens equitably and foster unity in diversity.
