Hon Shikir Nuhu Caleb resumes office as Transition Committee Chairman of Kanke LGA

The Interim Transition Committee Chairman of Kanke LGA, Hon Nuhu Caleb Shikir was at the Council secretariat in Kwal to assume office following his swearing-in as Chairman along side 16 others on Friday 9th June 2023 at Government House Rayfield.

Hon Shikir arrived the council Secretariat at about 9am on Wednesday morning in company of members of the management team of the council led by the Director of Personnel Management James Dangtis and the Director of Finance Mr. John Text S and security agents who took him round the council Secretariat in order to have first hand information about the state of things as at the time of his arrival.

The DPM Mr James Dangtis explained to Hon Caleb Nuhu Shikir that they could not access offices as a result of the industrial action embarked upon by the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). He also appealed to Hon Shikir to look into the mobility needs of the council as he assumes office.

While responding, Hon Shikir thanked the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for giving him the opportunity to serve his people, stressing that he won’t disappoint the Governor of his people.

Hon Shikir also said that as regards the industrial action by local government workers, he was taking queue from Governor Caleb Mutfwang who has assured civil servants that he will ensure that part of their entitlements are paid to enable them resume work. He promised to do same in order for the striking workers to return to work. Hon Shikir added that he had decided not to bring many of his supporters along in order to show solidarity with the plights of the striking workers.

Hon Shikir promised look into the dispute with a view to paying the striking workers part of their entitlements to enable them return to work. The brief event was peaceful and orderly.

Hon Shikir paid courtesy visits to the heads of all security agencies, the Ngolong Kabwir, Nde Dominic Gofwen and thereafter met with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the local government party office in Kwal where he promised to take the Governance from a non partisan angle and security of Kanke LGA seriously, while promising to deal decisively with anyone who dares the resolve to ensure safety of lives and property.
