The new Ngolong Ngas, His Royal Majesty, Nde Jika Golit was on Monday 16th October, 2023, presented his letter of appointment by the Plateau state government. The letter was presented to the Ngolong Ngas on behalf of the state government by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Ephraim Usman.
Nde Jika Golit emerged as the new Ngolong Ngas on Friday 13th October, 2023 following his selection by the election/selection king makers from the 12 districts of Pankshin and Kanke local governments.
While speaking at the presentation ceremony, the commissioner noted that the governor is very passionate about the unity of Plateau state, adding that the governor’s cooperation was one hundred percent during the entire selection process. He said the governor is someone who has a strog desire to ensure that the Ngas people have their traditional ruler which is why when the report of the selection was communicated to the governor, the governor who is even outside the country currently had directed that the commission proceeds immediately to grant approval. He then gave a brief background of how the selection process went. He made reference to the 1978 gazette as the document that guided the election/selection process and that indeed, its provisions were strictly followed. He noted that the selection process started with a request contained in a letter signed by ten king makers titled “Readiness for the selection of Ngolong Ngas” requesting for a date for the selection. This led to the constitution of a selection team from the ministry led by Da Francis Bot. He requested for prayers for the continues unity of the state and for wisdom for the Ngolong Ngas to lead the people assuring of the support of the governor.
Present at the presentation ceremony were the house members representing Pankshin South Constituency Hon. Salome Tanimu Wanglek, Pankshin North Constituency Hon. Amb. Kudamgbena Gabriel Dewan and Kanke Constituency Hon. Joseph Gokum, the Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen of Pankshin and Kanke local governments, Hon. Samuel Go’ar and Hon. Caleb Shikir, traditional rulers from the various districts in Pankshin and Kanke.
