A sitting director at the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PASIEC has resigned his appointment on account of the alleged election malpractices that characterised the recently concluded LGA elections.
The director, Mr Stephen Hirse – Director of Budget and Planning at the commission resigned his appointment this morning after the release of the final results for the Mangu elections -widely adjudged to have been won by the PDP candidate, Mr Burki Gufwan.
It would be recalled that PLASIEC on 3rd October conducted elections in 13 of the 17 LGAs and declared the APC winners in 11 out of 13 -with the results of Langtang North and Mangu withheld.
This morning, the results of Mangu were declared as follows, 58,447 for the APC and 57,761 for the PDP. Prompting a barrage of insults, criticisms and derision -culminating with the resignation of Mr Hirse, who also hails from Mangu LGA.
This will be the first time a high profile Plateau civil servant is resigning on moral grounds and represents a big blow for the legitimacy of the ruling APC party. Particularly, as the APC party in the past had derided Governor Jonah Jang for not swearing in, Mr Daniel Dul of DPP when he won his election during the last dispensation.
Receiving news of his resignation, the PDP through its publicity secretary Sir John T Akans has congratulated Mr Hirse, extolling his standing as exemplary and commendable.
