Herdsmen attacks: Government is overwhelmed, says cleric
The persistent attacks by armed bandits in different parts of Nigeria, especially the northern region are an indication of helplessness by government, Rev. Bulus Tsok, the Chairman, COCIN Provincial Church Council (PCC) Jos says.
Government according to the cleric might be doing its best but might be overwhelmed by the existing needs.
Rev. Tsok therefore sued for patience and prayers to enable government surmount the existing challenges while calling those in government to explore newer approaches to the problems.
“Apart from God, government is the one to provide security and people vote with that confidence that whoever goes there is capable of leading them out of their miseries.
“You cannot afford to fail no matter the veracity of the situation,” he said while leading the distribution of relief materials to IDP camps in different locations in the State.
The Church leader particularly called for security to enable the displaced persons return to their original places of abode.
“Life in an IDP camp is just next to prison life.
“You dong have a choice of food, bed space, drinking water or anything that makes life comfortable.
“The poor conditions of the camps generally make life difficult, particularly slowing down their ability to heal from the traumatic experiences they must have had during the attacks,” he said.
He also called for the rehabilitation of the IDPs to avoid posttraumatic stress disorders and other related conditions.
