Fulani herdman attack a couple in Plateau State, Nigeria with machetes on April 26th on their way returning to farm leaving the husband with serious head injuries.
The couple Mr. Yusuf Pam, 40, and his wife Mrs. Jummai Yusuf, were riding motorcycle from Kuru to Kwi when the herdmen ambushed them at Heipang after rainfall at 7pm, the victim said from his hospital bed.
When the herdmen stopped us, they had sticks, Cutlasses and rifles. We pleaded with them to allow us pass but they wouldn’t, as four of them mercilessly descended on us. The attacked us by cutting us with machetes. The cut me on my head several times and this left me with deep cuts as I was bleeding.
The herdmen ganged up and start beating me up with sticks and Cutlasses he recalled. Miraculously his wife escaped with minor cuts and swollen hands.
His wife said no one answered her cries for help. They continue beating us and sorrounded my husband who kept crying for help but to no avail she lamented. I thought my husband was already dead. I escaped from the scene and ran towards our village and called out for rescue.
Her cries for help as she approaches her community brought out people who rushed to the scene and met her husband in the pool of blood. He was already between the point of life and death she said.
The villagers took them to the hospital were they were treated. Mr. Pam said his medical bill are burdensome for him as he has been living in displaced people camp since an attacked some five (5) years ago.
I am appealing for help because I cannot be able the pay the medical bill as i have been living in internally displaced people camp after an attacked by herdmen in our community five (5) years go without any source of income he said.
Most people of Rachos village have been living in internally displaced person’s camp after herdmen attacked in 2015.
Another resident of the village said we are deeply concerned and worried over the continuous invasion of our community by Fulani herdmen, who are perpetrating these attacked without restraint not only to reduce our numerical strength but with also the aim of land grabbing.
The village head of the community said the herdsmen have been attacking his community without any provacation. They wants to instill fear into our people so that they cannot go to farm which can lead to economic hardship for our people. He calls on the government and the security agencies to live up to their responsibility of protecting life and properties of people.
