Five persons have been killed at Rakun Village in Barkin ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The gunmen attacked the villagers in the wee hours of the day when they were asleep and started shooting sporadically.

The spokesman of the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis (STF), Captain Ikedichi Iweha stated that two of the gunmen were killed. The Plateau state Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Abuh Emmanuel on his part said that three persons died. He said “The DPO in charge of the area reported the incident in the morning. Three people died in the incident.”

Emmanuel added that no arrest has been made but that security operatives have been deployed to maintain law and order. He said “More personnel have been deployed to the area, but no arrests have been made so far. Our men are on the trail of the suspects.”

Villagers disagreed with the casualty figures released by the security operatives and insisted that the casualty rate was higher and that there were some persons who were injured.
