At least 15 people were reportedly killed and several others injured in Kwata area of Zawan, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Sunday night, following attack by gunmen.
Residents of the area told ViewPointNigeria that unidentified gunmen pounced and attacked the residents of the area in the middle of the night.
A witness, Mr Paul Dapam, said, “as we speak, I am aware of 15 people who have been confirmed dead”.
Another witness said the attack began around 8:30pm and ended at midnight.
He said a security van belonging to the Special Taskforce on Jos Crisis, known as “Operation Safe Haven”, visited the scene at night, shortly after the massacre.
The owner of one of the IDP camps sheltering displaced persons from the North East, Mark Lipdo, also confirmed the attack and the killing of 15 people.
“We received information last night that gunmen attacked Kwata in Zawan district of Jos South LGA, Plateau State. Fifteen people were shot dead, but other casualties are yet to be ascertained”, he told our reporter.
The police spokesperson in the state, Abuh Emmanuel, however said he was yet to be informed of the attack.
“I have not been informed of the incident you are talking about. I will contact our Divisional Police Officer of the area for details,” he said.
