Group alleges APC of illegal registration of members

Socio-political group in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, the Unity Mandate Agenda, has raised the alarm over “illegal” registration of new members into the party across the 203 wards.

The National Coordinator, Comrade Babatope Abisola, said the illegal registration and issuance of fake APC membership cards are part of a broader plan by some APC chieftains to rig if the party adopts the direct mode of primary for the state.

The group alleged that those registered were given fake APC membership cards.

He alleged that Senate Deputy Majority Leader Senator Ajayi Boroffice was the brain behind the fake membership card production.

Abisola alleged: “Senator Boroffice is bent on installing his puppet, Dapo Adenegan, as the next governor because of his 2023 vice-presidential ambition.

“It is necessary we call the attention of our national leaders in the APC, including President Muhammadu Buhari, to the ongoing fake membership registration in Ondo State.

“Anyone planning to perform illegality will be resisted; nobody can intimidate us and those having such plan will rig themselves into the water.

“We must tell them that fake membership cards won’t stop the Unity Forum’s consensus candidate, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, from emerging as the governorship candidate of the party on July 20.

“We know those behind this criminal act. Senator Ajayi Boroffice because of his 2023 ambition to be the running mate to another candidate of northern extraction. He is determined to install his stooge as the next governor. That won’t happen.

“We hereby call on the APC national secretariat and the Inspector General of Police to investigate this allegation and bring the culprits to justice”

Senator Boroffice, speaking through his media aide, Kayode Fakuyi, said that he would not react to the allegations made by those he termed a faceless group.

He denied the allegation and insisted that the group is not credible.

“I won’t want to dignify it with any response,” Boroffice said.

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said he has no plan to defect to another party to contest the governorship election because he is sure of victory at the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries and the main election.

Akeredolu, who dismissed allegation of having plan B in case he lost at the primary election, said residents were aware of his achievements.

The governor, who spoke through his Information and Orientation Commissioner Donald Ojogo, said that he was not interested in the crisis rocking the Unity Forum, but would rather focus on bringing everybody together.

He said he is not bothered about the plethora of kinsmen from his Owo hometown, who are aspiring to be Ondo governor.

Akeredolu said the multitude of aspirants from Owo only creates the impression that somebody from Owo will remain as the governor, but not in the manner of their desire.
