Plateau State Government has concluded plans to name streets and number housings in Jos. This was disclosed by the Director of Research and planning in the Plateau State Government House, Mr Chris Kwaja in Jos. Kwaja who is the Chairman of the Sub-Committee set up by Governor Jonah Jang to name streets and number houses in Jos metropolis was speaking yesterday on the exercise that will soon commence.
He said the exercise will make the state capital a modern city that will preserve its cultural heritage and create a sense of relevance and belonging to the people dwelling in the places to be covered. The exercise will cover a total area of 1,362 square kilometres made up of Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Bassa and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas (LGAs). The five LGAs are part of the Greater Jos Master plan.

Kwaja added that the committee went on a fact finding mission to the LGAs and also on consultative visits to the Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna and Niger States for insights on the exercise. He said “We want a situation in which all you will need do is mention a street and you locate it effortlessly, unlike now when the best you can do is give a lengthy description because many streets are not properly named and houses are not clearly numbered.”
The Chairman said that Jos city will witness a significantly growth when the project is fully implemented and called for support within the citizenry.
