From Grass to Grace: The Amb. Dewan Story of High-Profile Political Breakthrough

It’s often said that “history is riddled with leaders that have left an indelible mark in the sands of time”. True to the words of the anonymous writer, Amb. Dewan Kudangbena Gabriel is a young leader who has a date with history. His astronomical rise to greatness is an eloquent testimony of God’s amazing grace and purpose. If it were man’s effort, there would have been little or no success at all, but one is convinced beyond any shadow of doubt that Amb. Dewan is the chosen one called by God to take the youths of Nigeria to the realm of uncommon achievements. Reeling out his action plans after his inauguration as the 5th regional president of the United Nations Youth Assembly representing North Central Nigeria sets him apart as a man with the readiness to set the ball rolling and deliver on his mandate. He said and I quote, “I’m fully prepared for the task at hand. I’ll do my best for the sake of conscience and posterity. I’ll raise the bar of excellence in leadership and service to humanity” How inspiring those words can be! It takes a leader of courage to hit the ground running if he/she assumes leadership position. Little did people know that God planned in advance that Mr. Dewan who had a humble beginning from Ngas land could be brought to limelight and political reckoning. This is where hardwork plays key role. The comrade president has never left anyone in doubt about his determination to sail through murky political waters in order to accomplish big dreams. This he has done through his participation in student’s unionism from time immemorial and conventional politics in the corporate secular world. He roared to victory and became the National Vice President of NANGS (Ngas Students Body) and of course his current position as the President of the United Nations Youth Assembly (North Central Region). During the election in Minna, Niger State, he had slim resources and there was glimmer of hope. His opponent who is at present a lecturer and head of department at the College of Education Anyagba came with intimidating financial resources to induce delegates. Reliable report says over N200.000.00 was dished out to each delegate. Comrade Dewan was not demoralized by the seeming and outright intimidation. He believed in himself and leveraged on available opportunities to win the support and confidence of the delegates. The result was obvious. He won with 13 votes against 8. His story reminds me that there is no limit to what youths can achieve if they believe in themselves and go for the gold. The good news is that victory has been secured on the one hand, on the other hand, this calls for the mobilization of different capacities and harmonization of efforts to ensure the success of the man who rose from grass to grace and is willing to make a difference and hugely impact on the youths. Comrade Dewan’s vision is inspiring. This is because, after arriving his hometown in Pankshin, as a matter of service to humanity, he and his leadership team swung into action and visited the sick and vulnerable patients at the Pankshin General Hospital to give them hope and support them with some stipends. How inspiring this sounds! His core plan for the youths is to help them maximize their leadership potentials and opportunities to achieve a promising future. This, he has started by bringing onboard the right team members led by the indefatigable Comrade Walshak Kefas (Chief Of Staff). In a media chat, Mr. Dewan said his passion and commitment was to extend United Nations scholarship opportunities to the youths and carry them along in the business of Nation-Building.
Born on the 22nd April 1991 in Kimat, wokkos District of Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau state, Mr. Dewan had his primary education at LGEA primary school Dang Wokkos. From there he proceeded to to GSS Wokkos (JSS 1-3) and later to Government College Pankshin (SS1-3). His determination to acquire knowledge took him to FCE Pankshin to study Social Studies and CRS. He’s presently a student at the Plateau state university Bokkos studying Political Science. Conclusively, Amb. Dewan Kudangbena Gabriel is a child of destiny, leader for all and an uncommon achiever. One is not unmindful of the challenges of leadership but with God and the support of his team members, fans, friends, foes, elders, clergies, students and well-wishers, his DREAM of being an instrument of change is possible.

Yours in success,
