The Plateau state Governor, Da Jonah Jang has granted pardon to five convicted persons just as he commuted sentences on two others.
Jang in a press statement released by his Director, Press and Public Affairs, Mr James Mannok stated that the Governor exercised his power under Section 212 of the Nigeria Constitution and after consultation with the State’s Advisory Council on prerogative of mercy.
Those who were released unconditionally include; Lawrence Oguno, Joel Oguno, Jacob Kwakfwan, Mohammed Umar and Magaji Ibrahim while Emmanuel Ochiba and Maxwel had their death sentence commuted to life imprisonment.
Jang said that the prerogative of mercy takes effect from the 25th of May 2015.
