Briefing newsmen after the council meeting, the state Commissioner for Information, Mallam Muhammed Nazif said the supplementary budget, which is the first for this year, was to enable three ministries to finance and execute its activities.
He further said the ministries were those of Commerce and Industry, Agriculture, Works and the Pensions Board.
Nazif also said the approval for the supplementary budget became necessary to enable government complete road networks across the state.
For commerce and industry, the commissioner said the Jos main market, though approved earlier, had to undergo other expenses due to the economic hike while that of agriculture was to enable government make adequate preparations for next year’s farming season.
He noted that next year’s budget would be presented by the governor before the end of the year.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works, Pam Dongs said 90 percent of the road projects were outside the metropolis, disclosing that government had the intention to introduce barricades at the fly over bridge at Secretariat Junction, pedestrian bridges and speed bumps for safe access on the main roads.
