Jos – Comrade Mankwat Gizo , the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Plateau State Polytechnic Barkinladi has disclosed that Plateau State government has given the sum of N228 million for accreditation of courses at the institution.
Gizo in an interview with newsmen in Jos said for 16 years, nothing was given to the Polytechnic for the accreditation of courses.
He said if courses offered by the institution are not accredited, it would only produce half baked graduates.
The school he said is expecting the state government to intervene in the provision of infrastructures, saying that the government could do this in phases considering the number of courses they are running in the state polytechnic.
Gizo disclosed that they intend to present about 45 courses for accreditation saying they have OND and HND courses and each of these courses is an arm of its own.
He further stated that efforts to get the course accredited have already started.
Gizo who is currently the zonal secretary of ASUP, said that he is making preparations to contest the House of Representatives election to represent Pankshin ,Kanke and Kanam Federal constituency in 2019 under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC).
According to Gizo, unionism has prepared him to serve his people in higher capacity at the Federal House of Representatives if voted into power in 2019.
He stressed that he has been trained to serve the people of his constituency and that is exactly what he intends to do this time around.
