Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau on Tuesday tasked the council chairmen to ensure the provision of basic amenities to citizens at the grassroots.
The governor gave the advice through Mr Philip Darbe, the Chairman of Forum of Special Assistants (SAs) on Project Monitoring, in Pankshin during a courtesy call on the Chairman of Pankshin Local Government.
“You must rise above board in your administration not to fail your citizens who trusted and voted you in to office to serve them.
“As council chairmen you should ensure that the grassroots is not ignored in terms of growth and development, so that the people could feel the transformation programme of President Goodluck Jonathan, ” he said.

He said that the essence of appointing the special assistants on project monitoring was “my deliberate attempt to ensure that development reaches the grassroots “.
According to him, any council chairman that fails to meet the expectations of the citizens must explain what he did with funds released to him.
Jang said that the forum, which had been saddled with the responsibility to monitor all projects executed by the chairmen, would report back to him on the performances of the chairmen for commendation or sanction.
Responding, Panskhin council Chairman, Mr Samuel Goar, said that the it had embarked on people-oriented projects, aimed at uplifting the standard of living of the people.
Represented by the council Secretary, Mr Daniel Goem, the chairman said that the council dug 20 boreholes in its 20 wards during the first 100 days of the administration.
He also said that a bridge and mini-stadium worth millions of naira were under construction and would soon be completed. (NAN)
