Sen. Gyang Pwajok on Monday said the Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON national honour bestowed on Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau was “very apt and well deserved”. Pwajok made the statement in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria NAN in Jos. “The honour is long overdue for someone who has served Nigeria as soldier, military administrator of two states, clergy, and currently serving a second tenure as

Plateau governor,” he added. He said that Jang deserved special recognition in view of his dexterity in managing limited resources to develop Plateau, a geo-political entity that “suffered massive violence for a long time.” The senator said that the governor also worked as a role model in leadership, stressing that many had been mentored to lead, while many potential leaders had learnt much under Jang’s tutelage. Pwajok said that the award was “a climaxing testimony to resilience”, adding that it was coming at the twilight of Jang’s governorship.

Pwajok said that the award was “a climaxing testimony to resilience”, adding that it was coming at the twilight of Jang’s governorship.

The senator added that the award was indeed a confirmation that hard work was still valued in the country. Also commenting on the honour, the state’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Abraham Yiljap, expressed appreciation to Mr President for recognising Jang’s worth. “It is a strong recognition of the selfless and development-oriented governance of Governor Jang.

“In fact, this award is coming late, considering that Jang’s trail-blazing achievements as governor in Benue and old Gongola states are still unmatched and appreciated by the people in the two states. “The achievements in the two states are even nothing when one sees how Jang has turned Plateau into a massive construction site,” he said.

He said that the award was a warm testimony to the governor’s vision of a better society and his selfless service toward attaining same. According to him, Plateau is looking forward to a higher honour by the presidency. The governor was among more than 300 recipients that got national honours in Abuja on Monday. NAN
