Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe, has offered free medical services to over 5,000 citizens of Plateau State suffering from various ailments under a project tagged ‘Support President Goodluck Jonathan’ free medical outreach.
Speaking recently at the premises of the Federal College of Education, Pankshin, where the outreach held, the minister stressed that the people of the state deserve access to good healthcare services.
Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe, has offered free medical services to over 5,000 citizens of Plateau State suffering from various ailments under a project tagged ‘Support President Goodluck Jonathan’ free medical outreach.
Speaking recently at the premises of the Federal College of Education, Pankshin, where the outreach held, the minister stressed that the people of the state deserve access to good healthcare services.
She praised President Goodluck Jonathan for finding her fit to serve in his cabinet, adding that the President is determined to better the lives of Nigerians and has embarked on projects that have impacted on lives of citizens of the country. Outlining Jonathan’s many achievements, Ochekpe said, “The railways are back on track in most parts of the country and very soon it would spread all over the nation, the problem of epileptic electricity power supply would soon be a thing of the past, as our President is fighting seriously to ensure stable electricity.
“The road network constructed by our President is all over the country. Out of the 1,000 motorised boreholes earmarked to cover the country, Plateau State alone was lucky to benefit with about 90.
“The Bukuru Water Plant has been completed while the abandoned Mangu Water Plant has been marked for completion and a dam to be constructed,” she added, to the delight of the listeners.
Also speaking at the occasion the president of Association of Residents Doctors (ARD) of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Dr. Innocent Emmanuel, expressed appreciation to the minister for her gesture, stressing that some of those being treated have been living with their ailments for more than ten years.
He said, “There are many people in the rural areas that have no access to good health facilities and the minister’s intervention is timely.” He added that over 60 doctors and over 100 health workers participated in the exercise. A consultant physician, Dr Rifakatu Reng, who also spoke at the outreach, said over 2,000 insecticides treated mosquito nets were distributed to people of the state for free.
While some of the patients were treated for fibroid, others were treated for diabetes, high blood pressure and other ailments. Over 70 surgical procedures were performed by the medical team, while three severe cases were referred to the JUTH.
