The Federal Character Commission has assured Contractors resident in Plateau State of its readiness to partner with them towards ensuring they get the desired patronage in the state.
The Commissioner Representing Plateau State at the Commission, Stephen Jings disclosed this while in audience with executives of the Plateau State Local Contractors Forum in Jos.
He said since the mandate of the Commission has been expanded to include monitoring the equitable distribution of infrastructural and social amenities amongst others the complaints of the forum was in the right place.
Jings described contractors on the Plateau as eminently qualified to handle projects that have hitherto been awarded those from outside the state and said part of his interactions with Federal Government Agencies located in Plateau State will look into how these agencies would patronize contractors here the more.
He urged them not to be discouraged with the lack of patronage by some of these Federal Agencies rather ensure they always get the Tenders Journals printed which involves the various contracts by Federal Agencies while the Commission continues to push for their patronage.
Earlier, Chairman of the Plateau State Local Contractors,Dalyop Choji Davou said they were at the Commission’s Office to congratulate the Honourable Commissioner on his appointment and to table some of their challenges in respect of patronage by Federal Agencies resident in the state.
He said Plateau prides itself as one of the states with very qualified contractors who have and can still deliver projects that can be compared to some of the best executed by multi nationals.
He decried the scenario where their members only get to see contractors brought in to execute contracts without giving them a fair share of biding for same and said their forum will also soon embark on a visit to some of these federal agencies with a view to further building relationships that will benefit all.
Meanwhile the Commissioner Representing Plateau State on the Federal Character Commission, Stephen Jings says Plateau State is set to get its fair share of Federal Government projects with the addition of ensuring equitable distribution of projects added to its mandate.
He said the Commission is to liaise with the National Assembly from the stage of proposals to awards as well as monitor implementation by those saddled with the responsibility.
According to Jings, this has informed his plan to have an interaction with all the members of the National Assembly from the state towards having a synergy that will attract more projects to the state.
Jings who said they have all returned to their states to ensure some of the mandates of the Commission are carried out to the later called on all Plateau citizens with challenges they know the Commission can handle not to hesitate to visit the office in Jos as staff will always be there to listen and advice.
